Dare to Take Action and Turn Dreams to Reality

St. Patrick’s day is upon us and conversations about the “luck ‘o the Irish” are frequent this time of year.  In a coaching session with Buffini and Company recently, we were asked to consider what it means to create our own luck.  I was reminded of the old joke above.  Wishing alone won’t bring something to fruition.  It takes action to make magic happen.  While we all feel for Joe, it is so obvious where his shortcoming is that we have to chuckle.  Are our own shortcomings this obvious?  I dare say not.

Knowing the difference between dreaming and doing is key.  As our mentor, Brian Buffini, has taught us, a goal is a dream with a deadline.  If only poor Joe had broken his dream to win the lotto down into written action steps, he would have seen right away that step one was to buy a ticket, right?!  Well, it turns out Joe had it half right.  Until recently, I believed action and muscle was the way to create my own luck.  Having mastered the art of checklists, I’ve had some great successes.  Yet, it wasn’t until recently that I realized the importance of dreaming big before taking action.  I knew this on a cognitive level but allowing myself to dream first has awakened a visceral understanding in me.  Through training myself to shift from a scarcity mindset to an abundance mindset, I am learning that “lucky” people aren’t afraid to dream big first and then take steps toward their big dreams.  Step one isn’t buying the ticket.  Step one is daring to dream BIG.

One of our team’s big dreams has been to own office space.  We have rented for many years, and we’ve often thought in passing about how great it would be to buy a place someday.  By embracing an abundance mindset last year and being brave enough to write this dream down and then take steps toward making it a reality, I am excited to report we just closed on an office building!  I now realize my shortcoming for years was not dreaming big enough.  Are you allowing yourself to dream BIG? What is it in your life that you’ve always dreamed of doing?  Maybe, like Joe, you need to buy a lotto ticket.  Or maybe you have, but your lotto tickets haven’t been winners.  Lotto aside, maybe you’ve been dreaming of owning a new place, but haven’t written down any action steps.  Let this be the nudge to give the team a call.  We can guide you to bringing that dream to fruition.  And, as we navigate through the process, may the luck o’ the Irish be with us!
